Running for our Heroes

We’re Kloe and Mariah, twin sisters from the Algarve. After witnessing the devastating wildfires across Portugal, we discovered that nearly 90% of the Bombeiros who protect our communities are volunteers — ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Their courage inspired us to act. What began as a single charity run in 2025 has grown into a movement to support the volunteer firefighters who risk everything to keep us safe.

Now, as we work toward official non-profit status, we’re raising vital funds to help equip and support these everyday heroes — who risk their lives not for recognition or reward, but because they care.

They run into danger to keep us safe — our heroes, and we run for them

What Running for Our Heroes means to us

What started out as a way to push ourselves out of our comfort zone turned into so much more.

It’s given us something we didn’t even know we were missing — direction, purpose, and a sense of belonging. Every step has reminded us why we started and how powerful it feels to do something that comes from the heart. It’s changed us in ways we never expected, taught us to trust ourselves, and brought us even closer together.

Being able to help the heroes who protect us, not because they have to but because they want to, is the best feeling. Every step we take feels like a small way to give back to the ones who give their all. The Bombeiros have welcomed us into their family, and we’ll forever be grateful for their kindness, courage, and heart.

Kloe and Mariah
Two girls who ran from the Loulé fire station to the Albufeira fire station, with the sole objective of raising €5,000 for the Albufeira Fire Department.

Kloe and Mariah joined forces and ran for a noble cause, supporting the Albufeira Fire Department. Through this solidarity initiative, they managed to raise €5,000, an amount that reflects not only their effort and dedication, but also the generosity of everyone involved. These donations represent much more than financial support; they are a true recognition of the tireless work that firefighters do every day, risking their lives to protect our community.

The funds raised will be used to purchase equipment, allowing the Fire Department to continue providing an excellent service and ensuring everyone’s safety. Small gestures of solidarity can make a big difference, and this race proved it.
